MONAT uses a trademarked cosmetic ingredient called Capixyl. Capixyl is a bit of a hybrid, but the main component is acetyl tetrapeptide-3 derived from English clover. This is not a drug like Minoxidil. As best as I can determine, this is a relatively new ingredient only hitting the cosmetic market around 2011.

Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 actually penetrates the scalp and removes almost 50% of the DHT to release the follicle from the scalp.
